Insidemichiganpolitics remodels kitchens in Newport Beach, California. We do full remodels, but the part of the job we spend the most care on is the part most people choose last: the hinges, drawer slides, pulls, faucets, appliance fronts and hood ducting. In a coastal city those small metal parts decide how a kitchen looks and works five years after it is finished.

Salt air is not dramatic. It does not ruin a kitchen in a season. It works slowly on plated zinc knobs, low grade stainless, cheap steel slides and exterior vent caps, and by the time the damage is obvious it has spread from one part to the next. We have come to think the most useful thing a remodeler here can do is pay attention to that early, and choose materials for the address rather than for the showroom.

How We Work

We walk the kitchen before we quote. We open drawers, look at the hinge cups, check the faucet base and the shutoff valves under the sink, and look behind the range at the outlet and the gas connector. Then we write down what is failing, what is likely to fail next, and what is fine.

That list decides the scope. Plenty of kitchens in Eastbluff and Harbor View Hills have solid 1970s cabinet boxes that only need new hardware and a fixture change. A narrow Balboa Peninsula cottage may need a smarter appliance layout more than it needs new doors. A Newport Coast kitchen with a large island may need the ventilation rethought because the original hood never captured much.

What You Can Expect From Us

• A plain answer about repair versus replacement. If new slides and pulls will do, we say so.
• Grades and finishes named in writing. You will know whether a part is 304 stainless, 316 stainless, solid brass or plated.
• Permits when the work needs them. New circuits, moved plumbing and altered walls go through the City of Newport Beach, with inspections scheduled before anything is closed up.
• Respect for your building’s rules. Many HOAs and gated communities set work hours and parking limits, and we plan crews and deliveries around them.
